I have been a member of AFFTER for 10 yrs. I would have never made it through my early symptoms of fibro if it hadn't been for the AFFTER support group. The people in the group could relate to what I was going through. The support group is a blessing.

Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
AFFTER was started as a local support group in 1999, soon after I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. We built a 501(c)3 non profit organization to further help people who suffer with this painful illness. We focus on education, self-help, advocacy and research for FMS. We host a variety of adult and juvenile FMS support groups and news forums. We have assisted with, published and funded research for FMS. We host annual advocacy and charitable events to raise funds for our cause.

How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
AFFTER continues to grow and prosper as a not-for-profit organization, just as awareness of fibromyalgia has spread throughout the general population. Recent TV commercials about fibromyalgia have caused people to seek a diagnosis for their myriad symptoms; they are seeking information and support. AFFTER is proud to be the one that so many turn to as we celebrate over 13 years as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization.
We organize charitable events to fund educational programs and research grants. Results of our research were the subject of abstract presentations over the last 5 years at the annual American College of Rheumatology conferences. We provide free educational resources from a network of physicians, university and hospital researchers, authors, advocacy groups, and other non-profit organizations. AFFTER hosts several support group forums, providing self help resources and education for people across the globe.
AFFTER actively provides support and services for the FMS community and funds research. We are operated by a full volunteer staff and do not accept paid contributions that require full endorsement of products or services. Therefore, we count on the generosity of patients and the public to raise funds for our cause. We ask you support our efforts - please make a tax deductible contribution today.

AFFTER is pleased to announce that we have awarded our 2nd research grant for $5,000! (2005 awarded $10,000)
On April 3, 2012, Sue Semm (AFFTER Treasurer) and Shari Ferbert (AFFTER President) traveled to Rush Presbyterian St Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago and presented a $5,000 check to Dr. Robert Katz. This donation will be used by Rheumatology Associates and their research team for a functional MRI (fMRI) study designed to gain more insight of cognitive function and pain processing in people with fibromyalgia:
